Seasonal yellow sand is expected to arrive over a wide area from northern to western Japan on March 25 and 26, adversely affecting visibility and aggravating respiratory problems.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the visibility is expected to be less than 5 kilometers in some locations.
Caution will be required when airing laundry outdoors, and there is also a risk of traffic disruption.
According to the JMA, large amounts of dust are being carried across Japan by prevailing westerly winds from low-pressure systems in deserts deep in China.
Yellow sand was observed in Osaka at 6 a.m. on March 25 and visibility has already deteriorated mainly in western Japan.
The JMA said that a wide area from Kyushu to Tohoku may be affected.
