OSAKA—A 28-year-old man was arrested on Feb. 3 in connection with a dismembered body discovered last month in the prefecture's city of Higashi-Osaka.
Hiroto Oki is suspected of abandoning the body in the mountainous area on the edge of the city sometime around Dec. 28.
The victim's remains were discovered on Jan. 25 near the border between Higashi-Osaka and Ikoma, Nara Prefecture, according to police.
The unclothed corpse's head, arms and legs were missing. Some parts were found nearby, but no personal belongings were discovered at the scene.
Oki, from Osaka’s Chuo Ward, was identified through neighborhood security camera footage.
Police located him in Nara Prefecture the day before his arrest. He has admitted to the allegations.
Authorities are now investigating whether Oki played a role in the victim's death and dismemberment, with a potential murder charge pending.
An autopsy indicated that the victim was likely a man in his 40s or early 50s who died in late December. Police are working to identify him through DNA analysis.
