A female student was arrested on suspicion of injuring eight people in a hammer attack at the Tama Campus of Hosei University in western Tokyo on Jan. 10, police said.

The injuries included wounds to the head, but all victims remained conscious, they said.

A caller reported to police at around 3:50 p.m. that “a student was wielding a hammer and struck seated students during class.”

The suspect, 22, was arrested on the campus located in Machida city.

She reportedly told investigators, “I got frustrated and hit students with a hammer that was at the school.”

The attack occurred in a building that houses the sociology department.

“The fire department and police are at the Tama Campus and are investigating the incident,” a representative of the university said.
