Acclaimed Japanese actress and singer Miho Nakayama was found dead in the bathtub of her Tokyo home on Dec. 6. She was 54.
Nakayama found success as a singer in the 1980s and ’90s, but was also known as an actress, particularly for the movie “Love Letter,” released in 1995, in which she played the lead role.
She won numerous awards in Japan.
A staff member of her management company visited her home in Shibuya Ward after she failed to show up for a meeting and found her in the bathtub full of water, police said.
Nakayama was confirmed dead at the scene. The cause of her death is under investigation.
She had been scheduled to give a performance in Osaka on Dec. 6, according to her official website, which first announced the event was canceled due to her health and later updated it to say she had died.
“We are deeply sorry to have to make such a sudden announcement to her fans who have supported her over the years,” her management company said in a statement. “We are stunned by this sudden event and filled with shock and sadness.”
