The sword recalled by Warner Bros. Studios Japan LLC (Captured from the company’s website)
The operator of the Harry Potter theme park in Tokyo is recalling replicas of the Godric Gryffindor Sword because possessing them could violate Japan’s strict weapons law.
Warner Bros. Studios Japan LLC, the operating company, said 351 of these swords were sold at the theme park in Nerima Ward from May last year to April this year.
The swords, recreations of a weapon from the Harry Potter film franchise, are about 86 centimeters long and affixed to a wooden display plaque.
They each cost 30,000 yen ($200), including tax.
The park, called Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo--The Making of Harry Potter, opened in June last year.
Police informed the company that the replicas can be classified as “swords” under the Firearms and Swords Control Law and must be registered with authorities.
Warner Bros. Studios is now asking customers who bought the swords to contact the company.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” the company said on its website: www.wbstudiotour.jp/en/notice_20241126/.
