To promote J-pop on the global stage, five major organizations from Japan's music industry announced the creation of Music Awards Japan on Oct. 22.
This initiative aims to celebrate outstanding musical achievements and showcase artists from Japan and other Asian countries to international markets.
It is being organized by the newly established Japan Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA).
CEIPA comprises the Recording Industry Association of Japan, the Japan Association of Music Enterprises, the Federation of Music Producers Japan, the Music Publishers Association of Japan and the All Japan Concert and Live Entertainment Promoters Conference.
The awards will feature categories such as Song of the Year, Artist of the Year and Best Song Asia, with results reflecting votes from artists, creators and industry professionals.
The inaugural award lineup will consider music that gained significant attention during the year starting from the end of January, focusing on tracks and artists that meet specific criteria.
More than 5,000 industry stakeholders, including artists, record label staff and music distribution professionals, will participate in the voting process.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in May 2025 in Kyoto, with plans to broadcast the event globally.
