Two carriages of the Tohoku Shinkansen uncoupled causing the bullet train to stop between stations at around 8:07 a.m. on Sept. 19 before resuming operation at around 1:12 p.m., East Japan Railway Co. announced.
No injuries were reported, according to sources.
However, inbound and outbound trains on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line between Tokyo and Shin-Aomori stations, as well as the Yamagata Shinkansen Line, were temporarily suspended.
At the time of the incident, the Tohoku Shinkansen, which combined the Hayabusa and Komachi trains, was running between Furukawa and Sendai stations in Miyagi Prefecture.
The Shinkansen came to a halt after the Hayabusa and Komachi trains became detached from one another about six kilometers after departing Furukawa Station.
The trains did not derail, according to a subsequent inspection.
