IMABARI, Ehime Prefecture--The Seto Inland Sea boasts a dream landscape dotted with numerous islands.

But the best view is available only to those who aren't scared of heights.

Catering to such desires, Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressway Co. is offering tours to enjoy the thrilling view from the top of one of the main towers of the Kurushima Kaikyo Ohashi bridge connecting Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, and Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Part of the Setouchi Shimanami Kaido scenic route, the bridge is a series of three suspension bridges with six main towers and stretches a total of 4,105 meters.

Participants are taken by boat to Umashima island in the Kurushima Kaikyo Straits and take a maintenance elevator to the top of the main tower of the Third Kurushima Kaikyo Ohashi bridge here.

According to the company, the viewing tours started in 2021 and have proven popular. The number of participants rose more than fourfold between April and May from the same period last year.

The company is accepting participants on a first-come, first-served basis for 24 tours held irregularly on weekends from Sept. 28 to Dec. 8.

Each tour is about three hours long and usually held twice a day in the morning and afternoon, starting and ending at the waiting room for Shitadami Port on Oshima island in Imabari.

Participants must be junior high school age or older, and junior high schoolers must be accompanied by adults.

A minimum of eight people is required, with a maximum of 30, for 7,500 yen ($53) each.
