The Sumida River Fireworks Festival, a summer tradition in Tokyo since the feudal era, lit up the night sky July 27 in an explosion of color and big bangs.

Organizers said around 20,000 fireworks were fired from two barges on the Sumidagawa river over the course of an hour and a half.

Responding to an influx of foreign visitors to Japan, Sumida Ward for the first time this year created an English version of a general information map showing traffic regulations and placed QR codes around the venue for accessing the map.
