Acclaimed Japanese movie director Hirokazu Kore-eda has been selected as one of the jury members for the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which awards the highest prize of the festival, the Palme d’Or, the festival association announced.
Kore-eda, 61, will be the first Japanese in 11 years to serve on the jury since Naomi Kawase in 2013.
The jury is chaired by American director Greta Gerwig. The nine jury members include American actress Lily Gladstone and Lebanese director Nadine Labaki. They will decide who walks off with the top Palme d’Or award and other prizes.
Kore-eda won the Palme d’Or for his title “Shoplifters” in 2018.
The festival will be held from May 14.
