NEMURO, Hokkaido—A “higuma” brown bear was caught on video attacking a light truck on a forest road here on April 28.
The driver, in his 50s, was on his way to pick wild vegetables when the bear ran up a hill beside the road, rushed forward and smashed into the truck at around 1:15 p.m., according to the Nemuro Police Station.
The initial impact broke a wiper. A second blow from the bear cracked the windshield, the video showed. The driver and a passenger were not injured, police said.
The incident was captured by a camera installed in the vehicle.
