NOBEOKA, Miyazaki Prefecture--Craft beer lovers with a sweet tooth are in for a treat, courtesy of a low-malt brew developed by Miyazaki Hideji Beer Co. here that packs a punch.
Its Aromatic Orange Ale was specifically designed to go well with sweets but is not sweet to drink.
The fruit ale is made with juices from “kinkan” and “hyuganatsu” citruses, both specialties of Miyazaki Prefecture, blended with dried orange peel.
Boasting an elegant aroma, the thick ale is designed to complement the flavors of chocolate, cakes, ice cream and other sweet things.
Despite its hefty 8 percent alcohol content by volume, it has a mellow flavor, according to the company.
“As a local-based brewery, we wanted to add value to Miyazaki specialties such as kinkan and hyuganatsu,” a company representative said. “We hope it is enjoyed not only by beer fans but also those with a sweet tooth.”
A 330-milliliter bottle sells for 628 yen ($4.20), including tax, while a 750-milliliter bottle is priced at 1,800 yen.
The ale is sold through the brewery’s shop and online stores, with 330-milliliter bottles available at retailers in and out of the prefecture.
