HIMEJI, Hyogo Prefecture--A special event here will offer a rare chance to see a lit-up Himeji Castle reflected in a pool of water temporarily created at the San-no-Maru Square in front of it.
“We would love for visitors to learn about the charms of Himeji Castle at night and stay overnight,” said a city tourism division official.
The Kyouka Suigetsu event will be held from Nov. 22 to Dec. 11.
The first such event, which was held for free last year, drew 47,281 visitors over 10 days.
But to ease congestion this year, visitors must buy tickets and select time slots from 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. or 8 p.m.
While the pool was square-shaped last year, it will be designed with curves this year to simulate a pond in a Japanese garden.
There will also be smaller pools at various spots across the venue.
During the event, the Otemae-dori street connecting Himeji Station and the castle will also be illuminated.
Admission is 500 yen ($3.30) for adults and free for junior high school students and younger children.
Tickets will also be sold at the door depending on availability.
