Ninnaji temple in Kyoto (Yoshiaki Arai)
KYOTO—An illuminated Ninnaji temple, a World Heritage site in Kyoto’s Ukyo Ward, will be floating in a sea of clouds during evenings this autumn.
The clouds themselves are artificially created by fog machines installed around the temple’s Kondo Hall, a national treasure. When lights are shone through the dense mist at night, the effect is spectacular.
“I hope visitors will enjoy the different atmosphere of the temple grounds along with the autumn leaves,” said Jitsuon Obayashi, executive director of the temple.
The event was selected and supported by the Japan Tourism Agency as part of efforts to recover inbound tourism to Japan.
