KUROBE, Toyama Prefecture--Kurobe Gorge Railway Co. will operate a trolley train for passengers to enjoy starry sky views at the scenic Kurobe Gorge here under pitch-black nights.
The Hoshizora Torokko limited service will take them to Keyakidaira Station located at an altitude of 600 meters, which is equipped with an observatory on the roof, on Oct. 15 and Nov. 12.
Participants can see the Milky Way and other natural wonders under a dark sky with little artificial light.
They will be accompanied by a commentator who will provide explanations on the wonders of the star-filled sky and the constellations.
Passengers will arrive at Keyakidaira Station at 6:24 p.m. to observe the night sky for about 50 minutes and will arrive back to Unazuki Station past 9 p.m.
Up to 50 people can take part in the tour each day on a first-come, first-served basis. The fee is 10,000 yen ($67) per person and 7,000 yen for elementary school students.
