Heavy rain forced Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) to suspend services on sections of the Tokaido Shinkansen Line on the morning of Aug. 16.
JR Tokai announced at 8:45 a.m. that bullet train operations would be halted going both ways between Mishima in Shizuoka Prefecture and Shizuoka city.
The railway said it will take some time before services can resume.
As of 12:30 p.m., bullet train operations between Shin-Osaka and Tokyo were suspended.
According to JR Tokai, the rain gauge installed between Shin-Fuji and Shizuoka Stations at around 8:30 a.m. exceeded safety standards.
The company’s website said that 75 millimeters of rain fell in the hour to 8:55 a.m.
