ISE, Mie Prefecture--Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced on Jan. 4 that additional infection-prevention measures will soon be implemented for arriving Chinese travelers.
Speaking at a news conference here, Kishida said, “We will strengthen temporary measures” aimed at arriving Chinese passengers.
The move comes in the wake of Beijing’s switch from its zero-COVID-19 policy in December, which is expected to lead to a major increase in Chinese tourists.
From Jan. 8, more sensitive antigen quantitative or polymerase chain reaction tests will be conducted on arriving Chinese visitors. In addition, those on direct flights from China will also be asked to show certificates of negative test results.
