KYOTO--A temple renowned for its spectacular fall foliage here is ready to welcome devotees of the season’s changing colors.

Historic Eikando Zenrinji temple in the city’s Sakyo Ward will allow “momiji” watchers to wander around its grounds to view the 3,000 or so maple trees in various hues of green, red and brown.

The special evening viewings will start from Nov. 5 and continue until Dec. 4.

It installed around 700 lights to show off the foliage at its very best.

Temple official Keitetsu Okugauchi said he hopes visitors will “enjoy a religious ambience inside the temple grounds at night.”

The temple tested the lighting setup on the evening of Nov. 2.

The entrance fee for a special evening viewing, which will be held between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., is 600 yen ($4) for junior high school students or those who are older.

Most of the trees on the temple grounds will burst into full crimson around Nov. 20, the temple said.
