KYOTO--A special exhibition will be held at 14 locations in this ancient capital this spring to showcase cultural treasures rarely accessible to the public.

The Kyoto Heritage Preservation Association, which hosts the event, announced on March 23 that the exhibition will run from April through June. Each venue is setting its own viewing schedule.

The Asahi Shimbun is a special sponsor for the event.

At Zuishin-in temple in the city's Yamashina Ward, the seated statue of Nyoirin Kanzenon, which was designated an important cultural property in 2020 by the government, will be open to the public at the temple’s Omote Shoin room from April 29 to May 15.

The temple, which is associated with Ono no Komachi, a poet in the Heian Period (794-1185), is dedicated to the 96.3-centimeter-tall statue made in the Kamakura Period (1185-1333).

The statue will be put on public display for the first time since it was repaired in May 2021.

The other facilities participating in the special exhibition are Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine from April 23 to 30; Kamigamojinja and Shimogamojinja shrines from April 23 to May 5; Shiramine Jingu shrine from April 23 to May 8; Shimogoryojinja shrine as well as Sorinji, Daigyoji and Konkoji temples from April 23 to May 15; Chion-in temple's Ohojo and Kohojo guest houses and Hojo Garden from April 27 to May 8; Konkai Komyoji temple's Sanmon gate from April 28 to May 8; Rozanji temple and Toji temple's five-story pagoda from April 29 to May 8; and Kitano Tenmangu shrine from June 18 to 26.

Admission to each location generally costs 1,000 yen ($8.20) for adults and 500 yen for junior and senior high school students. However, there may be some differences in admission fees among locations.

Revenue from the exhibition will be put toward repairing and preserving cultural properties.

Schedules are subject to change.
