To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Nozomi Shinkansen, Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) is offering the public the use of one car free of charge, for a good use of it.
The offer is part of a marketing campaign for the bullet train, which runs from Tokyo Station to Hakata Station.
People are invited to submit ideas on how they would use the car to JR Tokai from Dec. 17 to Jan. 7. The company will choose a couple of proposals and allow those who submitted them to have the use of one.
School reunions or children’s parties are among the purposes the company is envisaging that will get the green light. However, it says that any idea is welcome as long as it doesn't entail damaging the car.
In addition, no seats can be removed or decorations added to the exterior of the car.
The free car will run from Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka Station on a one-way journey only. Up to 100 people can be accommodated inside. The company plans to operate the car in around March.
The company is also considering adopting some of the ideas submitted and marketing them as travel packages after the campaign ends.
Ideas can be sent to JR Tokai's Twitter account (@nozomi30th) or by email to nozomi30th@jr-central.co.jp.
