Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike made her first public appearance in about four weeks on Nov. 21 after she rested at home following her hospitalization for “severe fatigue.”
Her first public appearance was at an online meeting of the National Governors' Association held that day.
“I’m grateful for your concern (about my health),” she said after the meeting, responding to questions from the media. “I’m in great shape now and would like to try hard to tackle the challenges Tokyo is facing in the days ahead.”
Koike, 69, was hospitalized for about a week from Oct. 27 for extreme fatigue.
The Tokyo metropolitan government announced on Nov. 2 that she had been discharged from the hospital and said she would spend several days at home before resuming her duties via teleworking for about two weeks.
During the online meeting, she vowed to call on the central government to ensure a stable rollout of COVID-19 vaccines as the booster shot campaign gets under way.
She read out her statement in a firm voice for five minutes, appearing in much better shape than at her news conferences from before her hospitalization, when she was often seen coughing.
