Kei Komuro paid about 4 million yen ($35,000) to his mother’s former fiance to resolve the financial problems that had delayed his marriage to former Princess Mako.
The agent for the former fiance said on Nov. 18 that the payment was made on Nov. 15.
Komuro met the former fiance on Nov. 12 as the representative for his mother, Kayo, who was not in good physical health.
The issue stems from when the man had provided 4 million yen to Kayo when they were engaged. Both parties agreed that the payment would resolve the financial issues existing between the two sides.
Komuro and Mako, who is the oldest daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, married on Oct. 26.
The couple departed from Tokyo on Nov. 14 for New York, where Komuro plans to work as a lawyer once he passes the bar exam.
