OSAKA--Riders were stranded near the top of a roller coaster ride at the Universal Studios Japan theme park here on Oct. 22 when a temporary blackout brought park attractions to a halt.
The roller coaster stopped near the top of the Hollywood Dream--the Ride attraction when parts of Osaka’s Konohana and Minato wards suffered a blackout around 12:45 p.m.
Thirty-five passengers on the ride were evacuated by 3 p.m. through an emergency passageway escorted by park attendants.
Power was soon restored at the theme park, but it will take a few hours before the roller coaster and other attractions can resume, USJ officials said.
The blackout affected a maximum of 3,200 electricity customers in the two wards, according to Kansai Transmission and Distribution Inc. The theme park is located in Konohana Ward.
