YOKOHAMA--A well-preserved Triceratops fossil, and other mighty examples from the age of dinosaurs not seen in Japan before, is now showing at a special exhibition in the city's Nishi Ward.
Hosted by Sony Corp. and sponsored by The Asahi Shimbun and other organizations, "DinoScience: The Dinosaurs of Laramidia" also offers CG images that exquisitely re-create the shapes of dinosaurs and the way the massive creatures lumbered around.
The exhibition at the Pacifico Yokohama convention center runs until Sept. 12.
The skeleton of Lane the Triceratops is on loan from the Houston Museum of Natural Science and being shown in Japan for the first time. It measures seven meters long and stands three meters high.
Other notable exhibits include a Gorgosaurus discovered with a trace of a brain tumor, a young triceratops and a young tyrannosaurus, along with many other reconstructed complete skeletons. Some of them have never been shown in Japan before.
"You can have high hopes (for the exhibition) because I'm sure you will experience far more than conventional exhibitions," said Masashi Tanaka, aka Mr. Dinosaur, who served as planner and supervisor for the event.
Admission is 2,800 yen ($25) for adults.
Advance reservations are necessary for weekends and holidays when higher ticket prices apply, for example, 3,000 yen for adults.
