Major staffing agency Pasona Group Inc. is offering 100 jobs to single parents with children of elementary school age or younger at its new headquarters on Awajishima island in Hyogo Prefecture.

The company decided to expand its program that started in August last year to employ single mothers who are struggling to find jobs amid the COVID-19 crisis. Eight single mothers have joined Pasona under that program as of mid-June.

The expanded program, which will offer permanent positions and contract work regardless of age and gender, is also aimed at getting more people to relocate to Awajishima.

Pasona is transferring the core functions of its main office from Tokyo to Awajishima, a move that will deploy 1,200 personnel to the island by 2024.

The newly hired single parents will be assigned to operations, customer services and sales at Pasona’s theme park and resort complex on Awajishima.

They can also work at the company’s agricultural department, sales promotion division, personnel section and other administrative departments.

Permanent employees are expected to receive an annual salary of 3.5 million yen ($31,500) to 6 million yen. Those who want to spend more time with their children will be allowed to work for shorter hours on limited-term contracts.

Pasona will help the new employees find housing, and will provide free English, piano and other lessons to their children as part of the company’s well-being program, according to Pasona representatives.
