Fresh cases of novel coronavirus infection in Tokyo exceeded the figure of a week ago for the seventh straight day on June 26. Four more deaths from COVID-19 were also reported by metropolitan government officials.

The latest tally of infections in the capital stood at 534, or 146 more than the previous Saturday.

The daily average of new cases for the week ending June 26 came to  476, which represented a 26 percent increase over the previous week and indicates a growing worrying trend in the capital.

Of the latest cases, 159 patients were in their 20s, 98 in their 30s, 77 in their 40s and 64 in their 50s. Patients aged 65 or older totaled 31.

Thirty-seven patients were diagnosed with serious symptoms requiring a ventilator or other equipment to breathe. The figure was a decrease of one from the previous day.
