OSAKA--The Osaka prefectural government confirmed 603 new coronavirus infections on April 12, a record high for a Monday.
The daily tally was up about 1.7-fold from the 341 infections reported a week ago and brought the prefecture’s accumulative number of COVID-19 cases to 60,761.
The death toll from the virus in the prefecture rose by four on April 12 to reach 1,219.
As of April 11, 203 patients in the prefecture were hospitalized with severe symptoms. The occupancy rate of the 224 hospital beds secured for such patients reached 83.9 percent.
Fifteen patients continue to receive treatment at beds for those with moderate symptoms.
