Tokyo logged 331 new COVID-19 cases on Aug. 9, the fourth day in a row the daily count exceeded 300, metropolitan officials said.
It also marked the 13th consecutive day the number in the capital has topped 200.
The number of seriously ill patients fell to 23 on Aug. 9 from 25 the previous day, according to Tokyo officials.
Of the 331 patients, those in their 20s made up the largest group, at 133, followed by 79 in their 30s.
Patients in these two age brackets accounted for 64 percent of the tally registered on Aug. 9.
They were followed by 43 in their 40s; 29 in their 50s; 18 in their 70s; 10 in their 60s; eight in their teens; seven younger than 10; two in their 80s; and one each in their 90s and older than 100.
