OSAKA—Osaka Prefecture confirmed a record 121 new novel coronavirus infections on July 22, topping the previous daily high of 92 reported on April 9, Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura said.
Many of the newly infected are in their 20s and 30s, Yoshimura said.
According to the prefectural government, 66 percent of the new cases are people ranging in age from 10 to 39.
About 30 percent of the new cases were traced back to “nightlife districts.”
Tests were conducted on 1,508 people, resulting in a positive result rate of 8 percent.
