Tokyo confirmed 67 new COVID-19 infections on July 1, the highest total since the state of emergency was lifted for the capital on May 25, sources said.
The July 1 tally represents the sixth straight day of 50 or more new infections in Tokyo.
Tokyo reported 55 new infections on June 24, the first time the daily figure topped 50 in 50 days. The figure dipped under 50 the following day to 48, but has since been above 50 every day.
There were 54 new COVID-19 infections on June 26, 57 on June 27, 60 on June 28, 58 on June 29 and 54 on June 30.
