Tokyo confirmed 54 new infections of the novel coronavirus on June 30, the fifth consecutive day new cases have topped 50, metropolitan health officials said.
After new cases surged to 55 on June 24 for the first time in 50 days, they were slightly down to 48 the following day.
But they bounced back to 54 on June 26 and hit 57 on June 27.
On June 28, the capital reported 60 newly confirmed infections, the largest number since the state of emergency was lifted for Tokyo in late May. Tokyo reported 58 new cases on June 29.
