Thirty-one new cases of COVID-19 infections were reported in Tokyo on June 23, with a majority occurring among younger adults.
Of those infected, 13 people were in their 20s and seven in their 30s.
Among those infected, five people work in nightlife districts but the infection routes for 19 people could not be determined. Of the 19, 11 are in their 20s and 30s.
The latest count marked the sixth consecutive day the number of new coronavirus cases in the capital has topped 20.
Including the count in Tokyo, the nation recorded 57 new cases as of 9 p.m. on June 23, raising the total to 18,096.
Two people died each in Tokyo and Hokkaido that day from the coronavirus, raising the total death toll across the nation to 965.
Saitama Prefecture recorded 12 new COVID-19 cases. That marked the first day the count in the prefecture has reached double digits since May 9.
Three females were reported infected in Chiba Prefecture, two of whom are siblings. One is an elementary school student and the other attends a junior high school in Ichikawa. Both their schools will be temporarily closed between June 24 and 26 as a precautionary measure.
The other female attends a private high school in the prefecture and lives in Urayasu.
