Two days after issuing an alert regarding the novel coronavirus pandemic, Tokyo reported 28 new COVID-19 infections on June 4, according to sources.

The alert was issued on June 2 urging local residents to be extra careful about a second wave of infections because the number of new cases reached 34 that day, the first time the daily tally rose above 30 in 19 days.

The latest figure brings the total number of infections in the capital to 5,323.
