Tokyo confirmed 12 new COVID-19 cases on June 3, a day after a surge in infections prompted the metropolitan government to issue an alert for a possible second wave, sources said.

Thirty-four new coronavirus infections were reported in the capital on June 2, the first time in 19 days for the daily tally to reach the 30s.

The “Tokyo alert” issued by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike warns residents that a second wave of COVID-19 infections could be on the horizon.
