On the first weekend after the national state of emergency was extended, 22 new cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Tokyo on May 10, the fifth straight day the number has been below 50, according to health officials and other sources.
That brings the accumulated total of patients with COVID-19 to 4,868 in Tokyo. On May 4, the central government extended the national state of emergency, originally set to end May 6, to May 31.
Tokyo, along with Osaka and 11 other prefectures, is listed as an area where special precautions should be taken to prevent a further spread of the coronavirus.
