The 7th annual New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival will be held at Hokkaido’s main airport from Nov. 20 to 23.

The festival will accept features and short film entries beginning April 20, including student projects for the short competition.

The film fest started in 2014 to bring together the latest works in animation from around the world. It attracted a record 43,000 attendees last year.

In addition to the competitions, the festival will offer a wide variety of programs, including a showcase of notable works from home and abroad, and talks for animation professionals.

It also aims to encourage international exchanges and contribute to revitalizing the local culture and economy.

Last year, the short film competitions started considering virtual reality content, digital comics incorporating animation, animated GIFs and other works. Starting this year, animated works tailored for screenings at galleries and other venues will also compete.

The festival is accepting short film entries until June 30 and feature film entries until July 31.
