UTAZU, Kagawa Prefecture--The observation deck of the newly renovated Gold Tower entertainment complex here that overlooks the Seto Inland Sea features aquariums 127 meters above ground with 3,333 fish.

The renovations, begun in January, were completed March 20. The facility reopened about one week behind schedule due to the rapid spread of the new coronavirus.

Sanuki, a company based in Sakaide in the prefecture that manages the facility, said the attraction is titled "Sorakin," which means goldfish in the sky. It was decided to fill the tanks with 3,333 fish to mark the 33rd anniversary of the opening of the complex.

About 20 breeds of goldfish, including "demekin" (telescope eye) and "sakura nishiki" (cherry brocade), are kept in tanks in the observatory on the top floor, with mirrors and disco balls representing the universe. One floor down, about 30 varieties of tropical fish such as common clownfish and guppies are displayed.

"Enjoy the combination of the landscapes and night views of the Setouchi region and goldfish," said aquarium designer Gakyo Miyazawa, 41, who was responsible for the project.

The facility is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the play park open until 6 p.m.

Admission to the observatory is 1,200 yen ($11) for junior high school students or older and 800 yen for children aged 1 or older, including elementary school pupils.
