Foreign residents anxious for information about the spread of the new coronavirus can now access an internet portal site set up by a foundation tasked with helping local governments develop a more international outlook.
Information in 20 languages explains how to reduce the risk of infection as well as where to call if a person has questions about whether testing is needed.
The Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) operates the portal that can be accessed at: (http://www.clair.or.jp/tabunka/portal/info/contents/114517.php).
One section offers the same information in 20 languages, such as Thai, French, Portuguese, Burmese, Russian and Khmer, as well as in simple Japanese for those who can at least read hiragana.
Users can scan a QR code to obtain a list of consultation centers to contact for questions about the coronavirus.
Another part contains advice about coughing etiquette.
The official in charge of the new portal site said, “We hope that Japanese who have foreign acquaintances will also use the site.”
