Heads of states, royals and dignitaries from all around the world have arrived in Tokyo to attend Emperor Naruhito's enthronement ceremony on Oct. 22.

China’s Vice President Wang Qishan and Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni were among the VIPs who landed at Haneda Airport in Tokyo on Oct. 21.

According to the Foreign Ministry, more than 180 countries and international bodies are expected to send their representatives to attend the Sokuirei-Seiden-no-Gi ceremony, which proclaims Naruhito’s enthronement.

Those in attendance will include Britain’s Prince Charles, Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon and Spain’s King Felipe and his wife, Queen Letizia.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam departed the city for Tokyo on Oct. 21.

Lam has been preoccupied with responding to prolonged and widespread protests triggered by a contentious bill to revise an ordinance to allow Hong Kong authorities to extradite crime suspects to mainland China for prosecution.

She is expected to attend the ceremony and fly back to Hong Kong by the night of Oct. 22.
