The largest-ever exhibition of the medical manga series “Cells at Work!” will be held in Tokyo in October before it moves to Aichi Prefecture.
Featuring about 150 original manga manuscripts and color illustrations, the art event will be held Oct. 9-22 on the eighth floor of the Matsuya Ginza department store in the capital. The venue in Aichi Prefecture will be announced at a later date.
The original manga series is a fantasy story centering around anthropomorphized cells of a human body, showing how red and white blood cells and other organs play vital roles in transporting oxygen and fighting infections. It has been running in the Monthly Shonen Sirius comic anthology since 2015, with the comic books boasting more than 3.5 million volumes in print. The title also spawned an animated TV series adaptation in 2018.
The manga and anime franchise has been popular among people of all ages, also winning acclaim from medical professionals and forming business tie-ups with various companies.
The exhibition also offers other attractions for fans to enjoy the manga’s world, including a photo-taking spot and exclusive goods.
