Nagoya will be the site of two new Evangelion statues and various events related to the robot anime series for a tourism campaign to promote the Chukyo metropolitan area.
The Evangelion Chukyo-ken Project is particularly aimed at attracting inbound tourists to the newly developed Sasashima Live district in the Aichi prefectural capital with the help of the world-famous “Neon Genesis Evangelion” franchise.
One of the Evangelion Unit-01 statues will be a 6-meter-tall model of the robot installed in Sasashima Live. The other will be a large golden-colored statue at Chubu Centrair International Airport.
Sasashima Live has been known among fans for its resemblance to the anime’s locale, Tokyo-3.
The district is also the home base of Chukyo TV Broadcasting Co., which is collaborating in the project and will host events between January and March next year in Nagoya.
Other collaborations planned for the project include an artwork exhibition and an Evangelion-themed train.
The fourth and final installment in the “Evangelion” reboot film series, “Shin Evangelion Gekijo-ban:||” (“Evangelion: 3.0+1.0”), will hit cinemas in June 2020.
A special website will be set up in early December to provide details.
