Sharp Corp. announced on Sept. 6 that it will enter the electric vehicle market with the aim of rolling out an EV in the near future.
Sharp plans to develop its electric vehicles by utilizing an EV platform owned by its parent company, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.
The announcement was made at a briefing about the Sharp Tech-Day '24 Innovation Showcase, which will begin on Sept. 17.
The company will unveil an EV concept model named the LDK+ at the two-day exhibition to be held at the Tokyo International Forum.
The concept model will use AIoT technology, which combines artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The LDK+ will be equipped with solar cells and storage batteries, and its AI can manage the owner’s home electricity as well.
A large LCD screen will be mounted in the rear of the vehicle, and by rotating the back seats, the vehicle could be used as a theater room.
Mototaka Taneya, Sharp senior managing executive officer, said at the briefing, “The EV is considered a room, and the ‘LDK+’ is meant to create value even when the vehicle is not in motion.”
