A Vietnamese man died after being swept away at a river junction in western Tokyo on Aug. 19, the second foreign national to drown at the site this month, police said.
The Ome Police Station received an emergency call at 12:35 p.m. by a witness who saw the Vietnamese man being washed away in the Okutama area.
Police found the body of the man, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, on a riverbed around 90 minutes after receiving the call. He was confirmed dead at a hospital.
The man was having a barbeque on the riverbed together with six other Vietnamese people, according to police. He is believed to have entered the water on his own accord before the current took him away.
The site of the accident was at the confluence of the Tamagawa river and the Nipparagawa river, about 200 meters south of JR Okutama Station.
At the same site, another foreign national drowned after being swept away on Aug. 12.
The police station is advising people to be careful while playing in the river water.
