Five bodies of a missing crew aboard a U.S. military Osprey aircraft that crashed into the sea on Nov. 29 were found in the waters off Yakushima, Kagoshima Prefecture, on the morning of Dec. 4, Japanese government officials said.
There were also multiple pieces of wreckage found in the area, believed to be from the crashed tilt-rotor aircraft.
The U.S. Navy and Maritime Self-Defense Force discovered the bodies while searching underwater, the sources said.
One crew member had already been found dead following the crash and a search was being conducted for the other missing seven crew members aboard.
