Shinagawa Ward has launched a special cruise boat service in central Tokyo, allowing passengers to tour local sightseeing spots by water.
The limited-time Shinagawa Cruise program will be offered through December.
Shinagawa Ward officials hope tourists will visit destinations and enjoy the views from aboard a sightseeing boat and a “yakatabune” traditional leisure ship.
“We hope many people will get a taste of the extraordinary experiences offered in the waterfront of Shinagawa Ward,” a ward representative said.
Bookings are available for two cruise packages: a yakatabune ride including a visit to the Shinagawa Aquarium and another featuring an illuminated bridge and a light show along the Megurogawa river.
The 40-minute aquarium course cruise links the Shinagawa Aquarium with the Tennozu district. Participants in certain rides will be presented with the aquarium’s specialized goods.
The Megurogawa river tour provides a night view of the surrounding area.
Both cruises will operate on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays until Dec. 24. Operating schedules and hours depending on courses.
The fare is 1,000 yen ($6.60) for adults and 500 yen for elementary school children.
