Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa plans to travel to Israel and Jordan starting Nov. 2, marking the first visit to the region by a Japanese minister since the Israel-Hamas conflict began.

Government and ruling party sources confirmed the four-day trip on Oct. 25.

Kamikawa will hold talks with Israeli officials on Nov. 3 before meeting leaders of the Palestinian Authority and the Jordanian government the following day.

The plans may change, however, given the highly volatile situation of Israel’s expected ground invasion of Gaza.

Japan has urged both Israel and Palestine to de-escalate the conflict, with Kamikawa’s visit being part of that effort.

Kamikawa is also expected to seek cooperation from Israeli and Jordanian officials in evacuating Japanese nationals from Gaza.
