Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko represented Japan at the coronation of King Charles III at London’s Westminster Abbey on May 6.

It marked the first time for the couple to attend the coronation of any foreign royal family.

Fumihito wore a formal suit while Kiko was attired in kimono.

The crown prince conveyed Japan’s congratulations along with goodwill messages from Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako during a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Charles that the couple attended the previous day.

Fumihito and Kiko spoke with a large number of the other members of royal families from around the world in attendance.

On May 5, Fumihito and Kiko met with Simeon II, who ruled Bulgaria until the throne was abolished by the Communist government in 1946, and his wife. Fumihito and Kiko met the former king during a visit to Bulgaria in 2009.
