Early-blooming cherry blossoms were around 60-percent full along Ajisai-dori street in the Nihonbashi-honcho district of Tokyo’s Chuo Ward.
“They will reach full bloom next week,” a Chuo Ward government official said.
The tree variety, called “okame-zakura” and bearing pink flowers, lines the 700-meter section of the quiet street located on the eastern side of the Coredo Muromachi commercial complex.
The street had been known as a secret spot for early viewing of cherry blossoms.
The blossoms began to bloom in late February, according to the manager of the Byron Bay Coffee shop along the street.
“We have many customers in early March every year because they come to view the early-blooming sakura blossoms,” the 35-year-old manager said.
