Fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in Tokyo continued to fall Aug. 12, but the good news was tempered by 30 deaths linked to COVID-19.
Metropolitan government officials reported 20,401 new cases in the capital, a decrease of 17,366 over the previous Friday.
For the week ending Aug. 12, the daily average of new cases came to 27,167.6, which was 82.7 percent of the average of the previous week.
Of the latest cases, 3,921 patients were in their 30s, 3,848 in their 20s, 3,536 in their 40s and 2,652 in their 50s. Authorities said 2,045 patients were aged 65 or older.
Forty-two patients were diagnosed with symptoms serious enough to require the use of a ventilator or other equipment to breathe. The figure was an increase of two over the previous day.
