Japan’s Foreign Ministry issued an overseas travel warning on July 25 urging travelers to exercise an abundance of caution regarding monkeypox.

The decision was made at a meeting of concerned government ministries and agencies to discuss Japan’s response to the World Health Organization’s declaration of a global emergency regarding the expanding monkeypox outbreak.

The travel warning, the lowest “level 1” on a 4-scale system, is targeted at all countries and regions in the world.

There have been no confirmed cases of monkeypox in Japan yet.

But the attendees of the meeting, headed by the deputy chief Cabinet secretary for crisis management, agreed to prepare to build a system to conduct testing and treat patients in the event of an outbreak.
